FIRE SUPPRESSION

FIRE SUPPRESSION

Fire Suppression Systems are commonly used on heavy power equipment. Suppression systems use a combination of dry chemicals and / or wet agents to suppress equipment fires.

Suppression systems have become a necessity to several industries as they help control damage and loss to equipment. Common means of detection are through heat sensors, wiring, or manual detection (depending on system selection).

Fire Suppression

Fire protection products work to detect fires, control and extinguish fires rapidly to save life and property and reduce the extent of the damageThese are the leading types and examples of their standard products:

1. Water-Based Fire Suppression Systems
Sprinkler Systems: Automatically release water when heat detection is triggeredMost suitable for officesfactories, and buildings.

Mist Systems: Employ fine water mist to extinguish fires and starve them of oxygen in ideal uses where water damage must be minimized (e.g., museums, data centers).

2. Gas-Based Fire Systems
FM-200 (HFC-227ea): Fire extinguishing agent that extinguishes fire without water. Quick-acting and electronics-safe.

NOVEC 1230: Environmental friendly clean agent, suitable for occupied buildings and electronics.

CO₂ Systems: Displaces oxygen to smother fire. Effective but dangerous in populated spaces.

3. Foam-Based Fire Suppression
AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam): Spreads on burning liquid surfaces (e.g., fuel) to smother the fire.

High-Expansion Foam: Expands fast to fill gigantic quantitiesapplicable to aircraft hangars, mines, or warehouses.

4. Dry Chemical Systems ABC Powder: General-purpose dry chemical for Class A (wood/trash), B (liquid), and C (electric) fires.

BC Powder: Used for burning liquids and electrical fires.

Usually found in kitchens, industrial locations, and vehicles.

5. Kitchen Fire Systems

Wet Chemical Systems: Automatically engage to extinguish oil and grease fires in commercial cooking spaces. Often installed over stoves and fryers.

6. Hand-Held Fire Suppression Devices

Fire Extinguishers: Various types for each fire class (water, foam, CO₂, powder, wet chemical).

Fire Blankets: used to smother small fires or to envelop a person. 7. Industrial & Specialized Systems Vehicle-Mounted Systems: Deployed on buses, mine trucks, or heavy equipment to protect engine compartments. Aerosol Suppression Units: Small, clean agent-based units mounted on electrical panels or server rooms.

Suitable Fire suppression systems: NOVEC1230 / FM200
